Laying 28.5 points with Alabama used to be a weekly rite of passage. But this isn’t your older brother’s Crimson Tide team that bludgeoned everyone into submission. Alabama’s rushing attack is virtually non-existent, ranking 129th in the country with a laughable 92.6 yards per game. Overall, the Tide average just 355.6 total yards per game (85th), relying heavily on big plays rather than sustained efficiency.
East Carolina, meanwhile, is quietly putting up absurd statistical numbers. The Pirates roll into Tuscaloosa boasting the 19th-ranked offense in college football (441.8 yards per game) and scoring 30.8 points per game. They hold a 45.2% offensive success rate and carry a turnover margin of +0.67 per game (13th). ECU can move the chains and control the clock.
Nobody is saying East Carolina is going to walk into Bryant-Denny Stadium and win straight up—Alabama’s defense is still stout enough to seal a victory. But asking a one-dimensional Tide offense to cover almost four full touchdowns against an ECU squad with a +9.25 average scoring margin is absurd. Our metrics project Bama winning by roughly 11 to 12 points, giving us over a 16-point edge on the line.
Plug your nose, ignore the name on the front of the jersey, and ride East Carolina +28.5 (-110) to a comfortable back-door cover.
